The Hilotherm HTP1 device offers significant benefits in managing pain, swelling, and bruising after dental and jaw surgery. Numerous studies have evaluated its use in post-operative care for maxillofacial procedures, consistently demonstrating reduced swelling, enhanced patient comfort, decreased need for pain medication, and shorter hospital stays. That’s why Hilotherm is used in over 70 hospitals across the UK following jaw surgery.

The machine gently cools the face to between 16°C and 19°C as research suggests this is the ideal range for minimizing swelling and bruising. At this temperature the treatment can be used continuously. Following jaw surgery most patients choose to use it intensively over the first few days of their rental.

Many traditional cryotherapy solutions rely on ice for cooling, but Hilotherm offers a distinct advantage by eliminating the need for ice altogether meaning that you can use the treatment continuously and don’t have to worry about freezing ice packs.

Hilotherm Lower Face cuff fitting guide

  • The machine circulates temperature-controlled water through a cuff, effectively reducing pain, swelling, and bruising.

    Unlike ice-based treatments, the regulated temperature allows for continuous use as needed. Many post-operative patients use it almost continuously during their first few days at home.

    Following jaw or dental procedures we recommend using the machine between 16°C and 19°C.

  • The average rental for jaw surgery patients is between 1 and 2 weeks. Recovery times differ from patient to patient so you can always extend on a week by week basis.

    Additional weeks rental are charged at £45 per week or £80 for a 2 week extension.

  • Hilotherm is suitable after any procedure or injury that results in a lot of swelling. The lower face cuff with link is suitable for the following procedures: Bimaxillary osteotomies, Orthognathic and jaw surgeries, Wisdom tooth removal, Implants, TMJ procedures, Facial trauma, Facial feminisation, Complex extractions

  • All our deliveries are booked with DPD on a morning delivery. Someone will need to be in to receive the delivery on the selected delivery day.

    We will contact you by email a few days before your rental finishes to confirm whether you would like us to collect the device or extend the rental. We will then book the collection from your chosen address with DPD. We can usually choose either a morning or afternoon slot for the collection.

  • The two face cuffs available are the lower face cuff with link and the lower face cuff without link. The with link has a section that cools between the top lip and nose. The without link does not. The with link is preferred by most consultants for jaw surgery (especially double jaw surgery). Some patients do prefer the fit of the without link so it is a personal choice. If you’d like further advice please call us in the office.

  • I have been coordinating a controlled trial using Hilotherapy with 61 total knee replacement patients at the RJAH Oswestry. The preliminary results have shown a reduction in patient length of stay from 4.52 days in the control group to 4.35 days in the Hilotherm group. There was also a reduction in the need for rescue doses of Oxynorm from 82% in the control group to 42% in the Hilotherm group. Patients have found the treatment improved their comfort level and the Physio team have found the treatment easy to administer with patients.

The one used in hospital did not have the link across the top lip and it made a massive difference . Reduced pain from swelling . Patient described it as heavenly .   • I have got Hilotherm with the full facial mask for my Mum to help aiding with her facelift post-op. She started using it on the third day post surgery and the swelling immediately went down, she also felt much better. The device supply warmer temperature than ice pads, at 12 degrees which was comfortable for my Mum to use and leave on her face multiple times every day. She had it for a a week period, however I would really recommend patients with similar situation to rent it out for two weeks or even three for greater benefit.

  • Ordered online and it arrived fast, had some miscommunications that was sorted out by contacting them which they was very helpful,

    Right about the product, ordered/rented the one for jaw surgery as advised by my surgeon,

    If your having jaw surgery you only really need it for a week and for the first 4-5 days I wore this thing almost 24/7, it keeps the water cold running through the face mask, I couldn’t imagine not using this after as I was really swollen and face was almost burning hot, thank god for this product, i was able to sleep with this on, it’s quite pricey but I would say it’s worth every penny, it’s like having a permanent ice pack on your face with the ability to change the temperature, great customer service too
