Our experience shows that patients feel their pain and swelling were significantly reduced by the Hilotherapy and helped in their healing. The patients feel the masks were comfortable to wear and there were zero complications directly related to the device. The majority would recommend the treatment to a friend and many wished they could continue the treatment at home.

I have used Hilotherapy for every patient undergoing a facelift or a brow lift for the last five years. I believe it to be a very useful adjunct to post-operative recovery and patients like the device. There is clear evidence of reduction of pain requirements and reduction of swelling and bruising.

I am currently carrying out 100 gynaecomastias a year and I am sure the Hilotherm has reduced the haematoma rate (mine is 3.3% and the published rate is 10%). There are other factors – the anaesthetic and the use of Evicel (thrombin and fibrinogen spray) but I think the Hilotherm may be the most important. I am also carrying out 50-60 breast augmentations a year. A third of the patients have had previous surgery and say things are much better with the Hilotherm. I also used Hilotherm with a tummy tuck patient recently with a round cuff applied loosely under her abdominal binder and she said it really helped, even asking for the cuff to be reapplied when it was taken away. All in all I remain Hilotherm's best fan.

I use the Hilotherapy machine with single use face masks for patients who have had total TMJ replacement. My experience is very favorable with most declaring it to be beneficial in reducing postoperative discomfort. One patient was so impressed he is purchasing a portable device for home use! Hilotherapy provides excellent postoperative comfort with reduction in analgesic use and length of stay. I am very keen to continue using it.

We have been using Hilotherapy masks for over two years at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Some of the drive for introducing Hilotherapy masks was by our nursing staff on our head and neck ward who have found the machines easy to use, excellent patient compliance and an overall feeling that they do help to improve pain control and reduce post operative swelling.

Over a 12-month period we used 80 Hilotherapy masks for patients following maxillofacial surgery. We have recently carried out a retrospective patient satisfaction questionnaire, designed to answer specific questions regarding the use of Hilotherapy face masks, comfort, do they facilitate faster healing, pain control, degree of post operative swelling and recommendations of overall experience.

We used {Hilotherapy’s} patient satisfaction questionnaire using five point Likert rating scales. Analysis of the replies from patients who had used the masks showed that more than 80% of the samples strongly believe that the Hilotherapy face masks helped them heal quicker. 86% were very satisfied or satisfied with the overall experience of the mask and 61% were very satisfied with the overall experience of the mask.

As a group of surgeons, we have found them very effective in reducing pain in our osteotomy patients and subjectively also seem to reduce the degree of postoperative swelling. I would have no hesitation in recommending the use of Hilotherapy in the management of post-operative pain and swelling following orthognathic surgery.

I have been using Hilotherapy for my orthognathic surgery patients in Gloucester Royal Infirmary, during the early post-operative period (48 hours), for over 3 years. My patients have been reporting that the unit is extremely soothing, and we have noticed a reduction in the need for painkillers. I have found that the Hilotherapy unit is easy to apply and the machines are very reliable.

I have now been using the Hilotherapy system for approximately six months both in the NHS and my Private Practice. There is no doubt that it does enhance the patient experience following orthognathic surgery. Patients are certainly more comfortable following surgery and require less analgesia. My subjective impression is that it also decreases swelling. It is comfortable to wear, simple to set up and easily controlled by the nursing staff.

I must say that the Hilotherapy machine is worth every penny. I came out with no bruising and very little swelling after having double jaw surgery. With the exceptional heat we have currently been experiencing it really helped in keeping my face and myself cool and virtually pain-free. I would recommend this equipment to anyone and, in fact, have already recommended it to friends about to go for ankle and knee surgery. I would also say that for anyone suffering from migraines this is a fantastic piece of machinery that really helps with the pain.

Would 100% recommend. I recently underwent major surgery and my husband hired a machine for my recovery. The machine controlled the swelling and pain and worked wonders through my sleepless nights. Ice packs just didn't cut it for me as I could only get around 20 mins of use at a time with ice packs. Thank you, Hilotherapy, for assisting in my speedy recovery.

I have been coordinating a controlled trial using Hilotherapy with 61 total knee replacement patients at the RJAH Oswestry. The preliminary results have shown a reduction in patient length of stay from 4.52 days in the control group to 4.35 days in the Hilotherm group. There was also a reduction in the need for rescue doses of Oxynorm from 82% in the control group to 42% in the Hilotherm group. Patients have found the treatment improved their comfort level and the Physio team have found the treatment easy to administer with patients.
